Virgilio Suárez Almeida is granted licence number 100 for Group A Travel Agencies, commencing operations under the name “INSULAR” in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Opening of the first branches in Puerto de la Cruz and San Agustín (San Bartolomé de Tirajana). Horst Scherschinski assumes the position of General Manager.

Official incorporation of VIAJES INSULAR S.A., with a share capital of 3 million pesetas, headquartered at Calle León y Castillo. Its founding partners are Virgilio Suárez Almeida, Concepción Suárez García, and Juan Andrés Melián García.
Founding of Marítima Insular, one of the first nautical tourism companies in the Canary Islands, with vessels dedicated to deep-sea sport fishing.

Relocation of the head offices to the Las Palmeras Building in Ciudad Jardín, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The evolution of the Excursions pool led to the creation of Tamaragua Tours.

Construction of a 10,000 m² building in Playa del Inglés to house the contracting and reservations departments.

Creation of Sunservice, which enables participation in trade fairs with our own stand and the execution of joint campaigns. This initiative allows us to achieve significant synergies and efficiency in promoting different tourist destinations.
Opening of facilities in La Solana de Jandía, including a club for special customer service for TUI and Saga Tours clients.
Receives the Master of Popularity

The Government of the Canary Islands awards the Gold Medal, one of the most important recognitions in Tourism.

Our incoming activity is registered under the “Turisbeds” brand. It has a specific M.I.C.E. department (fairs, congresses, conventions, and incentives).

Creation of Beway, our wholesale brand created to offer holiday packages to retail agencies in the Canary Islands, with products specialising in departures from the islands and destinations with direct air connections.

We are launching Vimotions, a brand specialising in tours and activities that digitises and manages the tourism offerings of small businesses, facilitating online sales.

In the midst of the pandemic, we led the #MuévetePorCanarias initiative to reactivate local tourism after COVID-19. In collaboration with leading companies in the sector, we covered the entire travel value chain (transport, accommodation, and distribution), boosting the market and reaffirming the role of the travel agent through exclusive sales in physical offices.

Viajes Insular celebrates its 60th anniversary. Despite economic uncertainty, the company maintains its strength in the Canary Islands tourism sector and continues to reinvent itself with a team of nearly 100 people to face the challenges of the 21st century.
